I would like to talk to you about stoma covers, there are many different people doing it now either as a business or for themselves and they are all fantastic, I can barely sew so hats off to each and every one of them. But in this post I will talk about Lisa from Stoma Style as I have first hand experience of her and her products.
I met Lisa at the Purple Wings Charity event last year (this years is the 22nd of July if you fancy it) and after looking at her products, I was able to touch them, see how they go on and such. This encouraged me to order a couple I think there was a deal on that day and I got three covers, which you can see in the featured image. Lisa has had an Ileostomy for over 10 years and began making the covers when her son was little. She has been on the news, radio and numerous articles including an information sheet from her local hospital.
There are numerous basic products that she sells and you can elaborate on and make it more personal. They can be bought for yourself or as a gift (I bought Shell over at Stoma In A Teacup a cover with teacups on it!) If you have an idea Lisa is always more than happy to accommodate and play around to see what she can come up with.
It doesn’t even matter what type of stoma you have because she will be able to fulfil your needs and has done with many others. Catheter day/night bag? Yep she has made covers for those too! I can only imagine possibilities are pretty much endless. For a non exhaustive list these are some of the products she has made for customers in the past; intimacy hearts, towelled covers, spare appliance pocket (see below), catheter bag covers and standard bag covers.
There isn’t much that needs to be done on your end as the customer, you pick the style your would like, there is an abundance of materials and she can do themes and all sorts! then you let her know what its for so for instance a Dansac Novalife midi bag and voila depending on the volume of orders she has you receive your product in next to no time. You can pay via PayPal which is simple enough. Every item is reasonably priced and keep your eyes peeled for any deals she may have on! It doesn’t even matter where you are in the world Stoma Style will ship to where ever is possible.
Everything about her service is very professional yet personal and I found Lisa kept me up to date about the stages my order were in. I was never sure if I actually ever wanted to wear bag covers as I felt like I was trying to hide it. But on the other hand how do you know these things for sure until you have tried it? I don’t wear mine everyday, I do however get a lot of use out of them. They can help make an outfit a bit more comfortable to wear especially if I cant wear tights for whatever reason. I also wear them to prevent the opening of the bag from scratching my leg or during intimate moments. I also know people who have them who get funky patterns and not care if their bag is on show at all. It is all down to personal preference. But please do head on over to Stoma Style to see if there is anything that takes your fancy or message Lisa to see how she can help you.
