Today March 8th is International Women’s Day and this is going to be a little bit different to what we usually talk about on our Friday post’s but today I wanted to celebrate our Big Boss Lady Lorraine and why her like every other woman in our life needs to know that they are important and that we recognise that.
Lorraine as you may know has had lots of experience around Inflammatory Bowel Disease what with her Dad having Ulcerative Colitis and her youngest son having Crohns disease. She and her husband Big Boss Man Nozar started this company after Ernie had his ostomy formed and there wasn’t really any support wear available that wasn’t just as I put it “scare belts” you know those awful ostomy belts that feel bulky and restrict your movement? That was case number one for why Lorraine needs to be celebrated for being a diligent and caring daughter.
Case point number two is how she excels as a dietitian and her love of research. This is shown in her book Better Bowels and Beyond where she just wouldn’t and couldn’t stop looking for ways to naturally but safely manage Sami’s Crohns disease. From hearing about how my own Mam struggled to deal with the idea of her child was sick and the disease itself couldn’t be cured only managed I know just how strong this makes Lorraine.
Case point number three is how fierce her love is for her children. Last week we shared Megan’s mental health story which on Facebook Lorraine was furious at how it was taken down just because it wasn’t a positive account. Lorraine has three children all of whom she is utterly proud of and has that smile only parents have when someone mentions their children; when they are mentioned. She has supported them throughout all of their own dreams and ambitions. Here is just one for each of them Omeed is an amazing photographer/videographer and he has travelled the world to capture some breath taking photos and collated them into videos too. Megan was essentially a mermaid and did lots of swimming and diving related competitions. Samir is a DJ and a really good one too. All of their passions have been helped into fruition by both parents.
Case point four she is an amazing friend. I feel like part of the family when I visit HQ or just chatting on the phone or via email. Lorraine has always had me feel straight at ease and with my anxiety that is a pretty amazing thing to be able to do. I know if I need her she will always reply at some point (she is a very busy lady) and not make me feel like what I have to say is stupid or irrelevant.
So here is to you Lorraine you have touched so many lives and I hope you continue to do so. Oh and yes I stole this photo from your Facebook!!!
Strong women; may we be them, may we know them and may we raise them.
