This month we have Dan from Respond. I met Dan at a Stoma Open day last year before I went to see the Pelican factory in Cardiff, he helped me think of some ideas of questions to ask whilst I was there as Pelican use Respond as their delivery service.
What company do you work for? Pelican Healthcare
What is your job role? Territory Manager
How long have you worked there? 11 years
How did you get into this job? I previously worked for Smith & Nephew selling woundcare products. After a break from the industry I wanted to get back into healthcare sales and looking around the opportunity with Pelican came up via a recruitment agency and stoma care looked like it had a lot of similarities with wound care.
Do you have any advice for someone who would like to this or something similar? It’s an interesting mix because you do need a great deal of commercial awareness while dealing with customers whose main role is caring for patients. You need to always remember that there is a patient at the end of the process.
How would you describe your job in three words? Different every day.
What is your favourite part of the job? When you get feedback from a nurse or patient about the good experience they have had using one of your products.
Is there any aspect you aren’t so fond of? The classic salesperson answer is “paperwork”. Occasionally the amount of driving can become wearing but you have to enjoy that bit if you’re going to a job like this.
How do you think your colleagues would describe you? Just gets on with it.
Cake or pie? Pie.
Describe the colour yellow to someone who is colour blind Far, far too bright.
