As Christmas draws near (where has that year gone?!), for a lot of people, it's not about wanting material things for Christmas. It's about time with loved ones, making memories and for some, it's even wishing for things that money can't buy or even wishing for things that don't exist.
On that note, Amy is going to tell you what 5 things she would put on her Christmas list as an ostomate.
What would you have on your wish list? Comment below this blog post.
1. A self-changing bag
Just imagine! For the days where you don't have energy, physically or mentally, a self-changing bag would be a great thing. Especially for those ostomates who have to spend quite a lot of time changing their bags or for those naughty stomas who decide to put on a show just as changing time comes, it would be great if you could have a bag that changed itself and cleaned up the mess for you... basically, one that did everything involved in the whole bag-changing routine.
2. A device that could tell you what your stomach and ostomy are thinking
Isn't it super annoying when your stomach and ostomy play up and you've got absolutely no idea what the cause is or, sometimes, the solution. You may try your usual "go-to" hacks and nothing works and you may even drive yourself crazy or to tears if you feel like whatever you do, it just won't solve itself! If a device could tell us what the problem is so we had more idea of a possible solution, that would be great!
3. A bag that mutes all ostomy trumpets!
We've all been there. Picture this, you're sat in a meeting or in a quiet little café and your ostomy decides to sing it's theme tune to everyone! Of course, you're more conscious than everyone else about it, but sometimes, in my experience anyway, it can be so loud at the most inopportune moments. It has definitely added to my anxiety and I know I'm not the only one. On the other hand, you may not care about the noises your stoma makes or may have a very quiet stoma. From my experience anyway, a bag that mutes the toots at the right time would be so ideal in work meetings or in a quiet yoga class!
4. An ostomy that dissolves blockages...
Before they turn in to pain, total blockage and sometimes, even hospitalisation. It would be amazing if our bodies could detect a blockage as it was about to happen and instantly break it apart. Move along, please!
5. An ostomy formed by open surgery that didn't leave scar tissue behind
Scar tissue is a natural part of major surgery, but often, scar tissue can lead to other problems such as scar tissue pain and surgery to remove it unfortunately causes more scar tissue. It's a vicious circle!
I know there are other things you may wish for as an ostomate, so these 5 things only touch the surface. Remember, everyone is different so no two people will wish for the same things. Having ostomy surgery often saves lives, including my own. Ostomies give us so much to be grateful for and often give us freedom that we could have only dreamed of pre-surgery. Yet, for some, they may have been problem free before waking up with an ostomy. Ostomy surgery takes place for so many reasons and it's so important to remember that no case is the same.

All of your points listed apply to me too, thanks for them they made me laugh, not too much though as it can hurt as does coughing and sneezing, thanks again for the humour (you have to laugh about it sometimes)
Merry Christmas to you and to all of us in the same situation.
